The Moves That Will Put the Dodgers in the World Series-With a Complete Disregard for Payroll or the Future of the Farm System….

It’s a great time to be a fan of the best team in MLB, the Los Angeles Dodgers.  They have the best record in baseball, the best rookie in baseball, the best bullpen in baseball and (for the time being) the best farm system in baseball.  However, Dodgers fans have seen similar scenarios to this in the past which have ended in heartbreak in the postseason (including being 2 wins away from the World Series last season).  The time so splurge at the deadline and dive in head-first is NOW for LA, and the Dodgers must do just that with ZERO reserve about our farm system or increasing payroll.  Kershaw is on the DL (taking a siesta, he’ll be back soon) and we are currently on the verge of sweeping Minnesota and extending our lead on the NL West, the National League and actually all of MLB.  The Cubs are starting to emerge after a huge acquisition earlier this month and they WILL be the biggest threat to our first World Series appearance in almost thirty years.  Here are moves that will come at a very high cost, but would ensure a series victory over the Cubs, and quite possibly a World Series Championship….

Sonny Gray – RHP (3.43 ERA, 6-5, 94 SO, 1.18 WHIP, UFA in 2020)

Hyun-Jin Ryu – LHP (4.17 ERA, 3-6, 74 SO, 1.42 WHIP, UFA in 2019)*LA PAYS 50% OF REMAINING SALARY

Walker Buehler – RHP (3.49 ERA in AA, 2015 1st Round Pick, #1 Prospect in LA Farm System, #13 in MLB)

Alex Verdugo – OF (.333 AVG in AAA, 2014 2nd Round Pick, #2 Prospect in LA Farm System, #28 in MLB)

Jeren Kendall – OF (.435 AVG in Pioneer League, 2017 1st Round Pick, #5 Prospect in LA Farm System)

Gavin Lux – SS (.201 AVG in A, 2016 1st Round Pick, #11 Prospect in LA Farm System)

Yu Darvish – RHP (3.44 ERA, 6-8, 143 So, 1.12 ERA, UFA in 2018)

Yadier Alvarez – RHP (5.26 ERA in A+/AA, #3 Prospect in LA Farm System, #51 in MLB)

Yusniel Diaz – OF (.291 AVG in A+, #6 Prospect in LA Farm System, #88 in MLB)

Keibert Ruiz – C (.325 AVG in A/A+, #7 Prospect in LA Farm System)

Zach Britton – LHP (2.65 ERA, 6 SV, 13 SO, 1.76 WHIP, UFA in 2019)

Mychal Givens – RHP (1.97 ERA, 53 So, 0.97 ERA, UFA in 2022)

Willie Cahhoun – 2B/OF (.304 AVG in AAA, #4 Prospect in LA Farm System, #70 in MLB)

Mitchell White – RHP (3.14 ERA in R/A+/AA, #7 Prospect in LA Farm System)

Edwin Rios – 3B (.308 AVG in AA/AAA, #19 in LA Farm System)

If LA is able to complete these trades, our playoff roster would look something like this…..

Austin Barnes

Yasmani Grandal

Adrian Gonzalez (1B)

Logan Forsythe (2B)

Corey Seager (SS)

Justin Turner (3B)

Chase Utley (2B)

Cody Bellinger (1B/OF)

Joc Pederson (OF)

Yasiel Puig (OF)

Chris Taylor (OF)

Enrique Hernandez (IN/OF)

Clayton Kershaw (LHP)

Alex Wood (LHP)

Sonny Gray (RHP)

Yu Darvish (RHP)

Rich Hill (LHP)

Kenta Maeda (RHP)

Brandon McCarthy (RHP)

Pedro Baez (RHP)

Luis Avilan (LHP)

Josh Fields (RHP)

Mychal Givens (RHP)

Zack Britton (LHP)

Kenley Jansen (RHP)

That’s a playoff roster that nobody in MLB would be able to hang with, and barring a series of extreme injuries to LA entering the playoffs, would be one of the most dominant rosters in MLB history.  This is going to be a fun weekend for LA and could very well determine our fate in the playoffs, as well as the future of the ball club.  Realistically, I feel that Darvish and Britton WILL be wearing Dodger blue by the end of the deadline, with Gray being the long-shot since the Cubs and Yankees will surely be interested in adding him to their respective rosters.  However, the Dodgers do have more than enough talent in the farm to add all 3 players to the roster by the trade deadline. Stay tuned Dodgers fans, because at 70 wins so far, we’ve only just begun……
